"From East Coast To West,
Californians Are The Best!"
Californian's are white with black on the
nose, ears, feet and tail.
Bucks weigh 8 to 10 pounds, while does weigh 8 1/2 to 10 1/2.

How did I choose to raise California rabbits?
I found some local meat breeders with some
healthy stock. For a reasonable price I got does and bucks to start my herd.
These make good dual purpose rabbits with their nice looks and good meat
proportions. As a breed they are among the more healthy. I'm sure with their
cool color marking will mix well with all the other colors in any dual
purpose situation.
The beautiful pet rabbit - Californian
Californian's should not be confused with the Himalayan rabbit, a fancy breed, they
have the same markings but are in no way related. Unfortunately, a
California's full show coat doesn't last terribly long.
In their life cycle there is a certain time when their fur looks its very
best. Californian's should have a dense full coat and little visible neck.
Unknown to most people there are other colors beside the normal white with
black markings. Lilac, Chocolate and Blue. I hope to mix my California doe
with my Rex and get some interesting colors. Californians make good pets
because of their friendly nature. Californians breed
well and look after there own litters well. Californians have a pleasant
personality and normally enjoy some human contact.
A Perfect Specimen - Should
have a very plump and full over and around the hips, with
firm meaty saddle carried as full and meaty as possible to top of neck and
down sides over ribs and shoulders.
Condition should be firm and solid and free from fatness or any loose flabby
condition.
The Head of California Pet Rabbits -
Should be well shaped, carried erect, have a short neck
and set close to body.
The Ears of California Pet Rabbits - The length should be in
proportion to the body. To be well set on head
and carried in an upright position.
The Eyes -
To be bright and bold. Pink in color.
Feet and Legs - The bone length
should be medium. Toe nails horn colored or showing color.
Fur of California Pet Rabbits - As
dense undercoat as possible with thick coarser guard hair. Fur should
have enough life to return to normal when stroked the wrong way.
Marking - The Color should be as
dark as possible. A Colored nose, feet, ears and tail are all required.
Colored spot on doe's dewlaps to be small and on the dewlap only.
Body color is pure white.
Tail for California Pet Rabbits -
Should be straight and carried erect length and size to the body.
Disqualifications - Rabbits
resembling Flemish or Himalayan type. Long rangy
type and poor meat type. Head out of proportion to size of body. Ears
without markings. Long or heavy bone. One or more white toe nails. Absence
of color where markings should be. Being overweight or underweight. Any of
these factors will make the California pet rabbit be not as desirable for
show.
Colors - Only the pure white
bodies are excepted if you would ever want to show one.
