The American Chinchilla rabbit is medium boned with a deep loin and broad shoulders that produce good meat proportions on finished rabbits. They are easily dressed and their meat is considered to be of good quality and taste.

The American Chinchilla was developed as a multi-purpose animal
for fur as well as meat. The coat is soft and beautiful.

The American Chinchilla attracts a lot of attention on the show tables
because of it's large size and the beautiful coat of fur.
People want to see it and most of all they want to touch it!

HISTORY OF THE AMERICAN CHINCHILLA RABBIT

The American Chinchilla rabbit was created in 1920s using
Standard Chinchilla rabbits and breeding them for larger size.
This was to create a rabbit with a larger pelt and bigger body for meat.

It was originally known as the American Heavyweight Chinchilla and is
unique to the USA. Now it is one of the Rare Breed Rabbits, seriously
threatened with extinction.

The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy has listed this
breeds' condition as Critical.

rabbit as the heritage animal that it is!
